The Opportunities Ahead

Solid Waste Management

  • State-wide Municipal Solid Waste Management Project- which inter-alia includes collection, segregation, transportation, treatment , and disposal of solid waste
  • Investment opportunity in recycling of waste – e-waste, plastic below 20 microns etc.
  • 12 super-clusters planned through PPP Mode to cover the areas of 8 Municipal Corporations & 159 Municipalities

Energy Efficiency

  • Baseline data collection and pre-energy audit completed in 159 Municipalities and 6 Municipal Corporations
  • Total annual energy saving potential is approx. 2.3 lakh MWH
  • Investment opportunity available to Energy Service Companies (ESCOs) for implementation of the project

Gujarat International Finance Tec City (GIFT)

  • GIFT targets to tap 6-8% share of the financial services potential in India
  • Creation of about 500,000 direct and equal number of indirect jobs

Key Policy Initiatives

  • To provide slum dwellers clean & pucca houses and to rehabilitate through private initiative
  • A regulatory framework rather than project based approach to achieve the objectives
  • Developer allowed commercial, residential or any other development and allowed to sell/dispose/rent/lease
  • Ownership to be transferred in the name of the society and beneficiary to be stakeholder in the same

To be made available by

  • Compensation through FSI rather than cash
  • Clubbing of slum rehabilitation with commercial/other more viable projects and make it affordable rather than providing direct subsidy
  • Providing Government land
  • Specific provisions required for zoning and facilities

Facilities

  • Dwelling unit with minimum 25 sq. mt. area and basic infrastructure
  • Social infrastructure like school, community center, health, post office, etc. for every 500 dwelling units.
